The gnome is not omnipresent. He is doing what he can to list Strange Folk on calenders and alerting the media, but he’s also buried under the logistical whatnots of planning a giant outdoor festival. Would you be so kind as to seek out places to tell people about Strange Folk? We have everything you need: a press release, both color and b/w printable flyers, and blog graphics. Take any or all of it and send it, post it, or tack it up wherever! Every year, with the help of our faithful fans, we have been able to draw crowds to support our wonderful artists without resorting to ill-gotten financial sponsorships or outlandish fees for participants. We pride ourselves in being community driven grass-roots event, and every little bit helps, even if that just means one flyer up in your break room at work or neighborhood coffee shop – we really, really appreciate your support!

Stephen brings a surprisingly diverse mix of subtle, soulful acoustic/vocal material delivered with a versatile musicianship custom designed to match the mood of your function. — Hello to all and thanks for visiting the page! Warm wishes especially to those of you who heeded my pleas for attention by joining as friends. Know it isn’t lost on me how fortunate I am to have you. I’ve been blessed with this exceptional community of musicians who have for so long shared their stages and studios and experiences so generously. Gracious acknowledgement to the venue owners and management who’ve opened opportunities by the trust they’ve placed in me to provide to their patrons a comfortable, accessible sonic environment. Inexpressible appreciation to those I have met at shows, whose kind words and support have brought an astounding degree of spiritual lightness to the already pleasurable process of music-making. Most sincerely, Stephen

Chicago-based rock-n-roll (emphasis on the roll), soul and Americana band, Flame Shark had a full circle moment in the winter of 2009 while recording their fifth full length album. The quartet was hunkered down at Chicago’s Engine Studios, birthplace of some fine music by Iron and Wine, Modest Mouse and Margot and the Nuclear So So’s to drop a few names, when through what now seems like fate they hooked up with ex-Black Crowes guitarist Marc Ford.
For fans of soulful, funky, yearning and weeping, blues influenced guitar playing and songwriting, Marc Ford is a touchstone player. His years with the Crowes yielded their finest albums, time on the road with Ben Harper and Booker T. Jones more than proved he is a soul brother through and through and now, he’s lent his talents and vision to Flame Shark.

Flame Shark is a band for people who love music, truly love songs, for those who want to let themselves go and be lost in a song, or allow the sound to soak into their bodies. Today’s music scene is littered with prepackaged nonsense, soulless and bodiless, totally disposable, but Flame Shark is for the true believers. They sing about human topics of depth and character, they are craftsmen on a journey to be better than they were yesterday, they embrace the power of songs and harmonies and the way a human voice can strike you at your core. In a word, real.

Blending influences from seemingly unblendable musical genres, these folks paint pictures of human drama, the struggles of life, the beauty of nature, and the few truths they know to be true with poignant lyrics and musical movements that can rip you from your apathetic state and send you whirling! This vibrant combination has aided Bethesda in developing a loyal following in Northeast Ohio.

In addition, Bethesda has had the privilege of sharing the stage with bands such as First Aid Kit, Suckers, Saddle Creek’s Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Bradley Hathaway, The Pomegranates, and others.

Bethesda followed up the 2008 release of their self-titled EP with the release of their debut full-length album, Love in a Time of Tra La La, in January of 2010. With this LP, Bethesda displays the full maturation of a sound and ethos that is uniquely theirs with 10 thoughtfully crafted songs that invite you into a world that is convinced that artistic expression of music does not have to come at the expense of dance-ability.

See Bethesda perform live at Strange Folk on Sunday, September 26th at 2p.m.

He now lives in suburban Chicago, surrounded by traffic and skylines. You can hear the influence of both locales in his indie folk music.

White found his musical voice during his college years, when he bought a guitar and taught himself how to play and write music. After spending three years making albums and selling out venues with a Chicago-based rock band, White set out on his own to find a new musical direction and record his first solo EP, Dirty Wings – an intimate and heartfelt collection of acoustic songs about love, loss and that incessant Midwestern hope for a brighter tomorrow.
