Natural Fiber Baskets

I create my baskets using plants and fibers from local and sustainably harvested plants and trees. Many of the plants were used by the Indians in the past, like Rattlesnake Master, which once grew abundantly in the tall-grass prairies. I was, and still am taught by old Indian basket books, as well as a few of the intricately woven baskets themselves. I envy anyone who still has the old Indian grandmother who can sit and teach the old techniques of harvesting and preparation, as well as weaving the baskets. Lacking that, I do a lot of experimenting, failing, trial and error, until I find what works with each material.
